What is it all about?

The Hottrax Motorsport Modern Classic Superbike Championships are a series of sprint races with grid starts. The machines are based on recent or current production motorcycles and available to the public through the normal commercial channels of the constructor/manufacturer that are no younger than 10 years old.

The series is designed to allow more mature riders to compete on 600cc 4 cylinder, 750cc 4 cylinder and up to 1300cc twin cylinder motorcycles from over 10 years ago. Minimum age limit is 20 years old and up.

Superbikes are highly modified race machines with unlimited modification such as a Nial MacKenzie Boost Yamaha or a Chris Walker ZX7RR with modified suspension and modified brakes and engines etc. Power can be around 140bhp

Supercup is for road based basic machines bikes prepared for racing with a few upgrades allowed.

What do you get?

  1. You get 8 rounds over 2 days at some of the best circuits in the UK
  2. You get long distance racing and 3 races per weekend together with timed practice and warm ups
  3. Trophies for top 3 are given at each event and at the end of the year.
  4. Novices are not eligible for Superbike but they are for Supercup
  5. Slicks, treaded or wet tyres may be used

What does it cost?

  1. Club membership is £30 for the year
  2. Optional Premium Membership is £120 per year and you get £15 of each test day with Hottrax
  3. Race entries are all around £215 per round

What are the rules?

  1. Eligibility for the Modern Classic Superbikes and Supercup Championships will be restricted to any Novice, Intermediate Novice, Clubman or National ACU licence holders. Other licence eligibility is on application to the club. First time or Novice licence holders are eligible for Supercup only.

  2. Machine Specifications – Superbike
    (Machines must be older than 10 years on 1st March 2012)
    These machines are based on the original road going production model but may be heavily modified

    Any modification is acceptable including the replacement of the following items:
    Front fork and yolks
    Rear suspension including swingarm, linkages, shock absorber
    Frames may be modified but must be based on the original road motorcycle
    Rear sub frames may be changed or modified
    Brakes and rotors
    Wheels
    Frame and sub frame may be modified for increased strength and rigidity only
    Authenticity to the original factory kitted and painted machines is encouraged
    Quick shifter devices are allowed

  3. Machine Specifications – Supercup
    (Machines must be older than 10 years on 1st March 2012)
    These machines must be basically as you would buy for the road in original condition.
    The machines must be as supplied by the manufacturer.

  4. The following modification are allowed:
    The machine must be prepared for racing as described in the ACU Standing Regulations

    The front forks and yolks must remain as standard but the springs, valving and oil may be changed
    The Rear shock absorber may be changed
    The brake lines must be replaced with braided ones in line with ACU regulations.
    Brake calipers must remain as standard but brake pads and master cylinder may be changed
    Brake disks may be changed
    Brake calipers that are produced for that model and fit the OE forks but maybe originate from a later year of manufacture are permitted up to 2002. (eg Ducati P2 and P4 Calipers)
    Wheels must remain as standard
    Exhaust system may be changed including the header pipes and silencer
    Rear drive chain and sprockets may be changed
    Rear brake mounting method must remain as standard
    Rear sub frames may be changed or modified
    Frames must remain as standard with no modification
    Bodywork and seat units may be changed for lightweight racing items
    All road equipment must be removed including lights and indicators etc
    Quick shifter devices are allowed
    Batteries may be changed for lightweight models

  5. Machine Eligibility List Example With Exceptions
    Although the age limit calls for 10 year old bikes or older some models did not change drastically over the years.
    The list below for example shows a Suzuki GSXR750Y, K1 and K2 which were almost identical and were made up to 2002, all are eligible.
